The Cult of Rakdos is arguably the most despicably cruel guild of Ravnica. Every being in that guild is single-mindedly obsessed with inflicting pain and being as sadistic as possible. Their parun and current guildmaster is the demonlord, Rakdos the Defiler. Nevertheless, Rakdos himself spends most of the time in hibernation in the lava pits, leaving a guildmaster-in-chief to rule the guild. This role was performed in the time near the Decamillennial by the cruel human sorceress Izolda (her card was made as Lyzolda, the Blood Witch).

As far as the Guildpact goes, their role is one of manual labor in mines and as slaves. They also hire themselves out as mercenaries and assassins. Unbeknownst to all but the paruns and high Azorius members, they serve the secret purpose of causing chaos within Ravnica so the other guilds unite and reinforce the Guildpact. Despite their uses, they are as savage as the Gruul and provide the League of Wojek with plenty to worry about. Rakdos rebellions are quite frequent, and at the edge of the Decamillennial the last Rakdos uprisings caused heavy losses to the Wojeks.

The Rakdos' territory neighbors the Golgari Old Rav, aka the Undercity. The center of their territory is the Hellhole, a cavernous space within a great mountain that was hollowed by centuries of mining work. In its center stands Rix Maadi, the palace of Rakdos the Defiler himself.
