[edit] Joining and name issues
At the end of May 2007, Zaph joined under the name Zaphod. It was a name he had made up as a character name for a story he was writing, some time before that. On MTGSalvation, he was for the first time confronted with the fact that it was also the name of a character from a well-known science-fiction book. Because he didn't want to be constantly associated with a character he didn't even know, he eventually changed his name to "Zaph" on October 3, 2008. He did however buy the book, but hasn't come to reading it yet.
[edit] 2007
In August 2007, Zaph entered in the Artwork Contest for the first time. He got in a decent sketch but, like most other times he would enter in the future, he didn't get it fully finished.
At the end of September, Zaph founded his own Avatar & Sig Shop; High~Light Studios. He got a couple of requests in the first weeks, but then quickly gained popularity. About two months later, he felt like he wouldn't be able to handle all the requests on his own anymore, and thought about asking spiderboy4 to ask him. Spiderboy4 was also looking for some more practice, and joined the shop at the start of December.
Around the same time that he founded his Avatar & Signature Shop, Zaph also started to enter in the Weekly Avatar & Signature Contest and still competes today.
In December, Zaph entered for the first time in the Poetry Running Contest and still enters today.
In 2007, Zaph was also active in some other places around the forums, like The Rumor Mill and the Magic Coffeehouse.
[edit] The SE Deck Banners
In the Magic Coffeehouse, Zaph invented the "Deck Banner" signature. He took the idea to his shop; A requester would submit a deck list and he would make a banner using card art from that deck list. The process differs from a normal banner that is based around a deck in that Zaph chooses what artwork from the deck to use himself. This way, he has more artistic freedom. The banners also often feature artwork from the land cards in the deck.
While he initially called them "SE (Special Edition) Deck Banners", suggesting that he would only be making them for a certain period, he never stopped making them.
[edit] 2008
In March 2008, Zaph was working on an entry for that month's Artwork contest. He didn't complete it, and didn't enter anymore. He planned to get back to drawing once his final exams were over.
In early April, Zaph and his friend Skajetolaf founded a clan; The Pack.
In September, he started posting less frequently in the Magic Coffeehouse. In October, he made his last post. This was all because he was too busy with running both High~Light Studios and his own clan.
In December, Zaph started to host the Poetry Running Contest.
[edit] 2009
In 2009, nothing much changed. Zaph still competed in the Weekly Avatar & Signature Contest and the Poetry Running Contest, and he still ran The Pack, High~Light Studios and the Poetry Running Contest. He didn't work as much in High~Light Studios anymore as he used to though, because his real life only gives him that much time to manage everything on the forums.
On the first of June, he became a Moderator of the Clans forum. Later that summer, he stopped hosting the Poetry Running Contest, passing the baton to George.

[edit] Biography
Zaph was born in the small city of Capelle aan den IJssel, next to Rotterdam. He still lives there and is currently in his first year studying English language and culture at the University of Utrecht.
[edit] Interests
Zaph lives for music. He is constantly busy expanding both his music library and his record collection. Practically all his money goes to records and concerts. He also enjoys poetry, literature, visual art and Magic: The Gathering.
[edit] Magic: The Gathering
He started playing Magic: The Gathering at the age of 11, around the release of Onslaught. He initially only really played with decks he borrowed from a friend. He eventually bought a 7th Edition starter deck. He stopped playing after Scourge, skipping the entire Mirrodin block, to return to the game with the Kamigawa block.
He then got heavily into the game, but after the Time Spiral set, his local store stopped selling Magic the Gathering. He kept playing, even though he had to go to the city to buy cards, but during the Shadowmoor block, his funds got low, because he spent most of his money on music, and stopped buying cards. He did attend to the Shards of Alara prerelease, and bought a fatpack, and then stopped buying again. He still visited MTGSalvation on a daily basis, but hardly played the game anymore.
Later on, Zaph found a playgroup again and he currently plays Magic again almost every week.
