Vagary is a MTG Salvation clan currently run by Tangerine Tulip. The co-leader was Gardevior, who had been absent since October 27th, 2006 until late 2006. The theme of Vagary is the randomness that is the human mind. Discussions circulate about whatever is current, popular, or just interesting at the moment. Conversation is up to be just about anything.

[edit] History

Vagary was originally an Overclan created by Tangerine Tulip and Gardevior on August 27th, 2006. It was supposed to be like "the fun old days of 499". This meant that the only members allowed into the clan had to receive an invitation from one of the two leaders; additional friends were added by requesting the friending via PM. It is a closed clan with a strict member and friend policy.

[edit] The Second [499] Thread

Because so many of Vagary's members were also members of the 499 Clan, it was viewed as only a second thread of the 499 clan. During the summer, when activity exploded in 499 (also causing the number of new members in 499 to increase), many members chose also to post in Vagary, which allowed them to keep up with the older members of the 499 clan without missing pages of discussion. During the summer months, activity was always high, however, as school began to start up again, activity levelled out, leaving Vagary with no more than fifteen new posts a day. Being an Overclan, this wasn't an issue.

[edit] Becoming Official

On October 29th, 2006, some changes were made to the rules of the Clans Forum. Overclans would be removed or turned into regular clans, and the creation of new clans would have to be approved by the new Clan Forum mods. In an attempt to save the clan, Tangerine Tulip PM'ed one of the moderators, nan, about what could be done to keep Vagary. The answer was simple, but easier said than done: the clan would have to become official. Since most members of Vagary were also members of 499 for a longer period of time, they decided to stay with the latter, leaving Vagary with less than the required 6 members. Good&Evil , bertrand , and U_Legacy all left their former clan and joined soon after, meaning the clan would survive. The former members of Vagary that chose to stay with their original clans weren't forgotten, but added to the friend list. Their activity wouldn't dwindle. The strict member and friend rules have hence become more lenient, but the clan is still a small, more personal group of people.

[edit] Clan Policy: New and Old

Originally, membership in Vagary could only be obtained through a personal invitation by one of the two Clan Leaders. Those wishing to be friends of the clan would have to ask via PM, where the leaders would then decide amongst themselves whether or not to allow the friending. These rules were in place to keep activity in the clan restricted to only the small approved group of people. This was in an attempt to prevent another "Summer 499" from happening. Anyone who was not a member or a friend was not allowed to post in the clan thread. With the absence of Gardevior, one of the clan leaders, the decisions of who to friend and not to friend became topics to be voted on in the clan thread itself. Anyone who directly asked to become a member, regardless of who they were or how the voting turned out, would first become a friend. If he or she proved to be a worthwhile contributor to the clan, they would then be invited to join as a member.

However, these strict rules soon changed with the creation of new rules in the Clan Forum. Because of the lack of members in the now official Vagary Clan, the invitation policy was dropped. The clan currently still holds firm to other old parts of the policy, including voting to determine friends, and not allowing non-members and non-friends to post in the clan thread. Members may now join in the same fashion, but the approval period may or may not be longer than that of a friend.
