Legends is the seventh Magic: The Gathering set and the third expansion set, released in June 1994. It is not considered part of any block. Legends introduced: legendary creatures — unique creatures which could only be on the table one at a time (of the same name), legendary lands — the first set of unique lands to see print and multicolored cards — cards which required more the one color to play. It introduced the following mechanics: bands with other, poison counters, rampage and world enchantments.

Urza's Saga is the sixteenth Magic expansion and was released in 1999 as the first set in the Urza block. Tournament packs changed in size from 60 to 75 cards. Urza's Saga included the first foil card for prerelease tournaments, Lightning Dragon. The keyword ability Cycling was introduced, which allowed players to discard unwanted cards to draw new ones, was introduced in this set. Echo, a keyword requiring a second mana payment on a permanent in exchange for higher than usual stats, also debuted. Urza's Saga is famous for its high power-level cards including Morphling, Smokestack, Sneak Attack and Tolarian Academy.

Chronicles was the twelfth Magic: The Gathering set, released in July, 1995. The set is notable for being the only tournament-legal non-Core Set that introduced no new cards. All cards in the set were from the Arabian Nights, Antiquities, Legends, and The Dark expansions. Each card was white-bordered, while the cards in their original sets were black-bordered.
Chronicles was printed so that new players, and other players who were unable to buy the sets originally due to their quick sellouts, would be able to have their own cards from those sets.

Eventide, codenamed "Doughnut", is the forty-sixth Magic expansion, and was released July 25, 2008, as the second set, of two, in the Shadowmoor block. Eventide's hybrid spells are enemy-colored, as opposed to Shadowmoor's hybrid spells being ally-colored. It introduces the ability word chroma, and the mechanic retrace.
