[edit] Editing rights
Who has the authority to edit the main page? It seems like it could use some updating. Strand 13:29, 7 September 2006 (CDT)
why does it still say December 29th? VestDan 17:54, 2 January 2006 (CST)
Okay, is fixed, coolies. Should i delete my talking? heh. VestDan 18:29, 4 January 2006 (CST)
[edit] Forums category
In the Navigation box, under MTGSalvation, should the Forums category be added? --Danbanzero 18:40, 4 April 2006 (CDT)
- Sure. Will do. Now that this is public does the community agree that the currnet frontpage is pretty boring and could use some spice? SorryGuy 19:23, 4 April 2006 (CDT)
[edit] Update
We should update the news section to account for going public. I can't recall how to do that.
And Spice would be NiceVestDan 19:26, 4 April 2006 (CDT)
- Woo! People like the Forums category! Also, I like the idea of spicing up the front page. I count as community, right? Nex3 19:41, 4 April 2006 (CDT)
[edit] Date
It's displaying the wrong date again.VestDan 16:07, 7 April 2006 (CDT)
[edit] Magic rules category
Could we get "Category: Magic rules" up on the navigation thingamajig? It is after all sort of important to the game. :-) --GWiZ665 18:26, 7 April 2006 (CDT)
- There, it's there. now, make a page for it. And if "Magic rules" is a category, the "rules" should be capitalized anyway. VestDan 18:31, 7 April 2006 (CDT)
[edit] Capitalization, I
- Why the decision to make each word in the category capitalized? This isn't the standard over at Wikipedia and there's no style document on this site suggesting otherwise. I was the one who created the category as "Magic rules" and unless there's a particular reason to capitalize the second word I think it should remain as is. --Binary 07:36, 10 April 2006 (CDT)
- Apparently it's already been changed, so nevermind I guess. Still not sure why we're deviating from the Wikipedia standard on category naming though. --Binary 13:55, 10 April 2006 (CDT)

- Thanks. Yeah, In know it should be capitalized, but I didn't create it, and I don't think it's possible to just rename/move it. Oh well, I'll get on making the page, and fixing the references. :) --GWiZ665 18:57, 7 April 2006 (CDT)
- Heh, I'll just have to correct myself there. I did in fact make that category, but a lot of pages was pointing to it, so I assumed it was the one to be made. --GWiZ665 19:00, 7 April 2006 (CDT)

- Earnestly, thanks. I'll go 'n' fix 'em. Any help is appreciated. MM (talk!) 10:00, 23 April 2007 (UTC)
- We shouldn't (have them capitalised), and I don't know why whomever it was did it. In any case, one can only think that it would be best to rectify the error now and from here on in, rather than continue to use the erroneous category, template, or whatever it may be. This is not only endemic to category names, by the way. A year from the preceding comments, MM (talk!) 09:53, 23 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Magic Theory
I think we should add a section for Magic Theory. --MrCowFart 1:45, 15 April 2006 (CDT)
It would be nice to have a place for articles on things like Mana curve or Card advantage to live. --Fishysua 03:00, 15 April 2006 (CDT)
I agree, a Magic Theory category (or something similar) should be on the front page. --GWiZ665 03:32, 15 April 2006 (CDT)
I created a category for this: Category:Magic Theory. I'd also like to see that on the main page. To improve our chances we should fill it with more articles ;) . --Oracle of Truth 18:29, 5 May 2006 (CDT)
- With it cleaned up, yes, fine, it will be added. As Binary pointed out a year ago, the categories are messed up, to be frank; it would be best to fix it up and then show it to all, perhaps. MM (talk!) 09:53, 23 April 2007 (UTC)
I think we should put a link to the Category:Magic product also from the main page. --GeoMike 21:39, 11 July 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Major News?
Do we need the talk about a Planar Chaos Partial Spoiler on the Major News section? That is old news and the link is dead. --GeoMike 17:47, 9 April 2007 (CDT)
[edit] Testing
For an editable copy of the Main Page, please go to Alternatemainpage, which was created by votan for everybody to edit.
Initially, it was created for non-sysop users to edit the formatting of the page, to find alternatives to the now-Main Page. --MM (talk!) 00:08, 14 April 2007 (CDT)
- This came up as a suggestion from a MTGS member - I think ButteBlues - that there be one so people could edit it, to find prettier alternatives to the otherwise lacklustre Main Page... MM (talk!) 10:00, 23 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Something Missing
As this is a wiki about mtgsalvation.com also, isn't there something missing from the main page? Like a link to www.mtgsalvation.com --GeoMike 19:55, 11 July 2007 (UTC)
It would be logical. On the other hand one day this wiki may surpass that place and want to cut lose from it's maternal cord!Faceless Wanderer 21:23, 11 July 2007 (UTC)
- Pardon, what, Faceless Wanderer? ...I guess this wouldn't be quite complete without a link, though there's already a bit of info at the footer, "About MTG Salvation Wiki". Thanks for the suggestions, the both of you; I'll try to add it in somewhere - a link to MTGS - without making it look atrocious. Cheers.=) MM (talk!) 13:23, 24 July 2007 (UTC)
To be honest, I wouldn't bother with a link to www.mtgs.com. Maybe in, like, [MTG_Salvation_Wiki:Site_support Donations]. MM (talk!) 03:42, 30 November 2007 (GMT)
[edit] Main page layout fix
Hi, I have tried to improve the layout, the results can be seen at User talk:Oracle of Truth/Main Page. Further suggestions are of course welcome. Oracle of Truth 12:13, 7 February 2008 (GMT) Oh and please note that the date box has an absolute positioning that I cannot change. It will appear on the right spot on the front page. Oracle of Truth 12:16, 7 February 2008 (GMT)
- I think it would be better to have featured article at the top. What do you think? --MORT (T) 13:08, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
- Done, also moved up Major News and made the box white as a contrast to the Announcement box. Featured Article could also use a color change, bright blue does not really work with card tag brown. Oracle of Truth 13:27, 7 February 2008 (GMT)
- How about a light orange color, otherwise I like what you've done. --GeoMike 14:40, 7 February 2008 (GMT)
- Ok, try User talk:Oracle of Truth/Main Page2 for comparison Oracle of Truth 15:37, 7 February 2008 (GMT)
I added the image of Lorwyn logo to the Feature article template, but it now looks weird with that green background. I don't know why there is white border around it. --MORT (T) 14:52, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
- I guess that's why Wikipedia doesn't use thumb on the front page. Oracle of Truth 15:08, 7 February 2008 (GMT)
- Update: I uploaded a transparent png version, I think we should really use transparent logos for the sets. Btw resizing seems to lead to some color problems, so the images may need ti be resized before upload. Oracle of Truth 15:21, 7 February 2008 (GMT)
- I really like the orange color - looks great Oracle! --GeoMike 15:58, 7 February 2008 (GMT)
- Maybe just a little less on the brightness. --GeoMike 16:03, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
- Like that? I seems the layout itself was the easy part ;) . If it's ok, will you update the front page today? Oracle of Truth 16:13, 7 February 2008 (GMT)
Don't forget to nominate new "feature articles of the week" and "feature articles of the week to improve" at Proposals. --GeoMike 16:26, 7 February 2008 (GMT)
[edit] Out-dated MediaWikiversion
At the moment we are using version 1.8.2 from 2006-10-13. The most recent (stable) version however is 1.11.1 released 2008-01-23. Because of all those bug-fixes (and features) added in the last 13 months we should really consider an update. Oracle of Truth 17:40, 18 February 2008 (GMT)
- I agree, not sure who to ask about upgrading. --GeoMike 17:46, 18 February 2008 (GMT)
- I posted the concern to the Wiki forum on mtgsalvation. --GeoMike 19:26, 18 February 2008 (GMT)
- Awesome. When did this happen? I was sort-of (yes, I seem to be overusing this qualifier; it's imprecise and adds ambiguity, which is probably why I'm using it and 'probably') blissfully ignorant and self-sufficient for a while and such. Indeed, thanks to Hannes. If you wish, please give him my regards and thanks. MM (talk!) 13:41, 28 February 2008 (GMT)
- I noticed changes on Feb 21st so think that is when he upgraded the wiki. I e-mailed him and asked about the Captcha and he installed it that day. --GeoMike 19:35, 28 February 2008 (GMT)
[edit] ImageMap extension
Can we get the ImageMap extension? It would be rather useful to make the logos on the block pages link to the respective sets. And I am sure there are also other uses for it. Oracle of Truth 13:38, 18 March 2008 (GMT)
- I emailed the request today. --GeoMike 15:29, 18 March 2008 (GMT)
- Any news on this one? It just occurred to me, that clickable maps would be a nice addition to geography-related articles. Oracle of Truth 02:30, 7 April 2008 (BST)
- I will email again. --GeoMike 02:31, 7 April 2008 (BST)
- It has been installed, try it out - let me know if it works. --GeoMike 01:58, 12 April 2008 (BST)
- Yup, it works :) !
I'll make a template for easier use on the block pages. Oracle of Truth 03:12, 12 April 2008 (BST)
- Excellent! --GeoMike 14:36, 12 April 2008 (BST)
[edit] Clock
To be frank, I never liked the clock on the main page. Usually users have their own system clock sitting somewhere, one that's updated in real time. So instead, how about an article counter? Such as: "This wiki has 3,294 articles" Oracle of Truth 18:53, 8 May 2008 (BST)
- Thx btw, I look forward to our 3000 milestone ;) Oracle of Truth 13:03, 15 May 2008 (BST)
- I will email again. --GeoMike 02:31, 7 April 2008 (BST)
