Legacy Burn deck

Simply put, Burn is a deck strategy that packs essentially direct damage spells and lands. These spells tend to involve fire and/or lightning, such as Lightning Bolt and Fireblast. Most are mono-red, but occasionally a white, green, or even blue splash can be used. Burn is a peculiar deck in that it is a purely aggressive deck which does not kill with creatures, unless they are of the Ball Lightning or Mogg Fanatic sort. These cards function more like direct damage spells despite their card types. In its purest form, this has the effect of granting the deck "virtual card advantage" by rendering its opponents' creature removal cards completely or nearly useless. It is also an extremely consistent archetype, chiefly killing at or near turn five.

Burn has access to all of its primary cards in Legacy without the sheer brokenness of Vintage-style combo to keep it down, so it is in this format that Burn seems likely to have the greatest success. However, it has never quite achieved tier one status, or even come close. This is likely due to the prominence of excellent creature-style aggressive decks which are capable of forcing Burn to use its spells to defend itself. And that is essentially "robbing Peter to pay Paul" since it therefore has fewer spells to send at the opponent's life total.

While Burn will likely never be the top deck in Legacy, it will just as likely never go away since it is cheap to build and has the simplest possible strategy. Even though Burn as a deck is somewhat lacking, its components are invaluable in other decks since burn as a creature removal strategy is an efficient defense for many Legacy decks.

The following is an example. There are many different builds.
