Forum Rules
From MTG Salvation Wiki
Forum Rules are the general rules that are used on all the MTG Salvation forums. Before members start posting there are a few rules they will need to follow. The MTG Salvation Forum Rules are as followed.
Contents |
[edit] At the Core
Be polite, use common sense, and respect others as you would in real life. If you're doing something that wouldn't be acceptable if the person you're talking to was sitting at a table with you, chances are you're doing something wrong.
[edit] Warnable offences
Breaking any of the following rules will result in your post being deleted/edited and you receiving a Warning from a moderator. If you break them often (~3 times over the course of ~a month of active posting), your account will be suspended. If it becomes clear that your account is good for very little but breaking these rules, your account will be banned.
- Spam - A spam post is a generally short post with no content which does not contribute to the topic.
- Signatures - Signatures may include only one non-animated 600x100 block of image, not including smilies. Any secondary banners, even if they are in spoiler tags, will be removed.
- Double Posting - Please do not post two times in a row on the same topic. Instead, edit the post using the "Edit" button to add to the first post.
- Bumping and Necroing - Do not "bump" a thread simply to bring it to the top of the forum. Similarly, do not post on a very old thread which has effectively died ("necroing").
- Evading the Censor - Certain words will be turned into asterisks (*) by the forum software. Do not attempt to get around this by altering the word slightly or inserting an asterisk of your own. If "fork" were a banned word, "fo*k," "f0rk," and "forrk" would all be examples of this.
- Mod Text - Bold red and the [mod] tag are reserved for moderator use only. Please do not use them. If you are using them with clear intent of impersonating a moderator, the punishment will be harsher.
- Backseat Modding - If you see a post or thread that breaks the rules, hit the report button. That's it. Don't lecture the person about their broken rule, don't say "This thread should be moved to ____," just report it and be done with it.
- Evading a Warning - Do not edit your post after a mod has done so.
[edit] Flaming
"Flaming" is a broad category which includes making a malicious direct attack on another person on this site ("What are you talking about, idiot?"), racism/sexism/ismism ("I thought you were smart until I found out you were black/female/Christian/atheist/Mexican/gay/short/tall/etc."), trolling (attempting to get another user to flame you) intentionally, or using acceptable criticism as an excuse to make a derogatory statement ("You shouldn't run Grizzly Bears in your Vintage deck, n00b idiot.").
Flaming is not allowed in posts, avatars, sigs, locations, custom titles, etc. Breaking this rule will result in your post being deleted/edited and you will receive a Warning from a mod. Depending on the severity, your account may be suspended. If you show a trend of flaming repetitively, your account may be banned.
[edit] Auto-suspension rules
Breaking any of the following rules will result in your post being deleted/edited and your account being suspended. If you break these often (~3 times in the course of ~a month of active posting), your account will be banned.
- Posting or linking to pornographic images - Don't do this. Additionally, if the pictures are found to be of an illegal nature (under-18, etc.) your account will be automatically banned and you will be reported to the proper authorities.
- Sexual content - Ever-so-surprisingly, the Personal Writing forum isn't the proper place for your latest Harry Potter erotic fan-fic. This is a PG-13 forum. Anything over that is not okay.
- Plagiarism - Do not copy/paste other people's work without crediting them (a link is fine).
- Advertising - Do not create a new thread asking people give you references for your FREE IPOD!!!!! Similarly, do not create a thread asking people to populate your new forums/visit your new site/etc. If you have a site you want to promote, do so in your signature, where it is allowed. Putting links in posts is okay as long as it contributes to the topic.
- Illegal Activity - Do not discuss your latest Kazaa adventures here, and do not link people to files which may not legally be distributed. Keep this outside the forum.
- Disobeying a Mod - If a mod makes a reasonable request that you do or not do something, please follow his or her instructions.
[edit] Auto-banning rules
Breaking any of these rules will result in your account being banned:
- Malicious links - no tubgirl, goatse, lemonparty, etc. Also, do not link people to spyware or to a page with malicious code.
- Snuff or child pornography - These will get you banned and reported to the proper authorities.
- Scams - Attempting to cheat people out of their money/cards subversively.
[edit] Suspensions
When certain rules are broken above your account may be suspended. A user's first suspension will be two days in length. Each suspension after the first will be longer than the one before it. You may see your suspensions and their lengths in your User Notes. Posting on an alternate account while suspended will cause all of your accounts to be banned. And a note: telling us that the account which matches your IP and started posting the day you were banned is in fact your brother/friend/etc. is highly unbelievable.
Administrators and global moderators may give suspensions.
[edit] Bannings
When certain rules are broken your account may be banned. If you have been a poster who has nothing to contribute to the site but spam, flames, and other negative things, your account may be banned. If you are banned, you are not welcome back. Your alternate accounts will be banned on sight.
Global Moderators and Technicians and have the ability to ban in emergency situations. Non-emergency bannings may be issued by administrators.
[edit] Helpful notes
- If you want to put an image in your signature, use the [simg] tag, not the [img] tag.
- To see your User Notes, go to your profile. In the "Forum Info" box, underneath your post count, you should see User Notes.
- Please don't image leech (post a picture hosted on someone else's webspace). If you want to post a picture, host it here, on your own webspace, or on a site like ImageShack.
- If you see a post that breaks the rules, please click on the report button to report the post. A moderator will deal with it shortly.
- If you disagree with a moderator's decision, please PM them or post in their Moderator Helpdesk. Only make a thread in Speak Your Mind if you are addressing a site-wide issue.
- Common BBCode commands may be found here.
- You get a custom title at 1000 posts.
- We keep track of you on an individual, not username, basis. If you get suspended twice on one account and then make a new account, that account's first suspension will be treated as a third.
- Some of these rules are different in the different forums. For example, bumping your thread once a day is okay in Market Street. It is recommended that you read the stickies in a given forum before you post there.
