[edit] Deckbuilding Rules
- Each player chooses a legendary creature which is called their General.
- In tournaments or leagues, Generals are allocated beforehand, usually on a first-come, first-serve basis. No player may have the General of another player as a card in his or her deck.
- In open play the Legendary rule is ignored for Generals. If two players have the same legendary creature as their general in play, they both stay in play. If one player has the creature as their General and the other player does not, only the non-General creature is put into the graveyard from play. If neither is the General, both are put into a graveyard from play.
- No cards in the deck of each player may feature mana symbols for colored mana not present in the casting cost of their general.
- No two cards that aren't basic lands may have the same english name.
- Each deck must contain exactly 100 cards including the General
- No Sideboards are allowed
[edit] Play Rules
- Mana of colors that are not the General card's colors may not be produced.
- Before play begins, each player's general is removed from the game.
- The players start at 40 life.
- The first Mulligan draws seven cards, the second six, and so on.
- Players may play the General card from the removed from the game zone. However, the general costs
more to play for each time it has been played before.
- If a General would be put into a graveyard from anywhere, it is removed from the game instead.
- If a player is dealt a total of 21 combat damage by any single General, he or she loses the game. The General does not have to be continuously in play. This is an additional state-based effect and the damage counted can not be healed or removed.
[edit] Banned List
Usually all Vintage legal cards are allowed for tournament play. While cards may be banned by specific playgroups or tournament organizers, banned lists usually feature the following cards (sorted by the colored mana Symbols appearing on the cards):
