His nickname inspired from J.R.R. Tolkien's book The Silmarillion, where Caranthir the Dark was one of the sons of Fëanor, Caranthir has been a member of MTGNews since June 2004, Caranthir made the switch to MTGSalvation on January 1st 2005, where he promptly joined the Greek Alliance clan. As a member of the "Storyline Clan", he posts mainly in the Storyline forum; he is also active in the Rumor Mill.

In 2007, he was voted for the Best Storyline Poster of the year.

[edit] Moderatorship

On August 10, 2008, Caranthir, replacing The Squirle master, became a moderator of the Storyline forum on MTGSalvation.[1] On September 1st, 2008, after votan resigned, Caranthir was added as the third moderator of Clans forum.

Finally, on December 21, 2008, Caranthir replaced Hydrokinesis as the fourth Rumor Mill moderator after the latter's stepping down.

Caranthir is an administrator of the largest MTG forums in Czech Republic, [www.cmus.cz Czech Magic Under Scope], and an author of numerous translations and mainly storyline-and-flavor-oriented articles published there. He is known among the Czech online MTG community for the aforementioned articles. Caranthir is also known for having founded (in 2005) and maintaining a Rumor Mill at the website.

In real life, Jan resides in Brno, the Czech Republic, and is a scientist/economist, with master degrees in Physical Chemistry and Management Systems, and is finishing his Ph.D. while working at a research centre.

[edit] Interests

Jan used to play ice-hockey actively as a goaltender in his teens, and in that time he was a devoted hockey fan. His favourite NHL team was Mighty Ducks of Anaheim (now Anaheim Ducks). Though he is not as interested in hockey as before, he would be pleased to see the Anaheim Ducks winning the Cup in 2008.

Among his other interests are history of naval conflicts, especially the WWII and Pacific Theatre.
