[edit] The Nations
[edit] Almaaz
Not much is known about Almaaz prior to the Dark, but it did exist before the Sylex Blast. It was one of the most ancient cities on Terisiare during the time of the Brothers. Almaaz was the only country on Terisiare that didn't collapse in the wake of the Brother's War.
[edit] Argive
Argive was the most northerly of the three coastal kingdoms, and homeland of Urza and Mishra. The Thran Empire left many artifacts, which were excavated by the Argivian archaeologists and restored by the Argivian blacksmiths. Argive was ruled by a monarchy until the outbreak of war, where Urza was all but given the powers of the king. There was also a class of nobles with much influence, of which the Brothers' parents were a part. Besides an elaborate politcal system, the Argivians were a rather modern people. They made use of some Thran technologies that had been uncovered, are described as wearing more contemporary attire, such as vests and slacks, and lived in lavish estates. After the war, the country eventually crumbled with the rest of Terisiare's cultures.
[edit] Argoth
Argoth was a large island off the coast of Southern Yotia, present in the time of the Thran, Homeland to the Elves of Terisiare and descendants of the survivors of the Thran Civil War. It was covered in dense sentient forest and was brimming with natural resources. Its capital was Citanul, a forest-city at the center of the island, where the forest was ruled by Titania, an Avatar of Gaea. Human druids also dwelled in the city. The island was completely obliterated in the last battle of The Brother's War, when Urza activated the Golgothian Sylex.
[edit] The Fallaji
The Fallaji Empire was a great alliance of several different tribes of desert nomads, united at last under the Suuwardi tribe. It would later be ruled by Mishra. The Fallaji were a deeply religious people, distrusting of artifice and magic, until the war against the other nations of Terisiare called for the technical prowess of Mishra and the allied Brotherhood of Gix. The Empire's main cities included Tomakul and Zegon, and its natural territory stretched across The Great Desert in the center of Terisiare, but also had a significant portion of conquered lands at one point or another in the war. Nearly all the Fallaji were killed in the Last Battle, and a few hundred years later, all have been wiped out.
[edit] The Kher Ridges
The Kher Ridges were Mountains in the Western Desert of Argive, infested by Rocs, and once the center of the forgotten Thran empire. Here, the Cave of Koilos was located. Kher Keep, also located in this mountainous region, was a Kobold Stronghold where Rohgagh once reigned. Kher means big mountain in the goblin tongue.
[edit] Koilos
Koilos was once Halcyon, the beautiful capital of the Thran Empire. By the time of the Brothers, there was little more than a few crumbling buildings and a network of caves, containing the last technological remnants of the Thran. The most important thing here was a portal that would lead to Phyrexia, sealed and undisturbed for five thousand years, until Urza and Mishra inadvertantly broke the seal. During the War, it was the headquarters of Gix, a powerful Phyrexian Demon, who manipulated both sides in the war for Phyrexia's best interests. Koilos is the old Argivian word for secret.
[edit] Korlis
Korlis was one of the three coastal kingdoms. It was a city-state ruled by a merchant council, and engaged primarilly in trade with the rest of the nations of Terisiare. The River Kor flows through the city itself, and there was adundant forest around it at one time, but lumber was harvested by Urza's armies until the area around the city was barren. Near it was Korlinda, which was the location of an aborted peace conference between Argive, Korlis, Yotia and the Fallaji, two years before the beginning of the Brother's War. After the war, it eventually crumbled with all other civilizations on Terisiare.
[edit] Lat-Nam
The College of Lat-Nam was situated on a small island, off the west Terisian coast. At the time of the Brothers, it was a collection of scholars from all over Terisiare and Dominaria. Its co-founders, Hurkyll and Drafna, would help to establish the Third Way, and became some of the first people on Terisiare for centuries to tap into magic. It would survive the war, and would go on to become the training grounds for many of the world's mages over the next three thousand years.
[edit] Malpiri
Not much is known about Malpiri apart from its location on the plains north-east of the Monanstery of Gix, which would later become the Balduvian Steppe during the Ice Age. A clan of barbarians lived there before the Ice Age, which may have been the early Balduvian culture. Malpiri was devastated in the aftermath of the Brother's War.
[edit] Monastery of Gix
The Monastery of Gix was located in the far north of Terisiare, and home to a religious cult worshipping a machine god named Gix. In response to a dream, they travelled to Koilos and activated the portal to Phyrexia. A Phyrexian Demon stepped out, happening to bear the same name as the deity worshipped by the cult. It should be noted that whether or not the Gix worshippers were aware of Phyrexia ahead of time remains unclear. The Brotherhood of Gix, as the cult when on to call themselves, became his agents among both Urza and Mishra, manipulating both sides in the interests of Phyrexia. They succeeded in introducing Mishra to the power of Phyrexia, and he was compleated as a reward for his loyalty to his new masters. After the war, the monastery was abandoned, and the cult travelled to Phyrexia, having been turned into mechanical beings long before.
[edit] Ronom Glacier
Ronom Glacier was the site where Feldon found his first cane. It was a large body of ice at the furthest north of Terisiare, that emptied into the Ronom Lake.
[edit] Sardia
Sardia is a mountainous country, home to many dwarves. It was these dwarves, along with some goblin tribes, that invented a substance like gunpowder, an otherwise rarely seen invention on Dominaria. The Brothers soon made much use of this, "goblin powder" in their war-time technologies. Near the end of the war, Urza had the dwarves purged after the creation of his Collosus, because they had been caught sending provisions to Mishra.
In the comics, the Archmandrite of the Ivory Tower invited !kathwar chief of the Malpiri clan, representing the Sardian people as well as the Malpiri, to join the Council of Mages.
[edit] Sarinth
Sarinth was a peacefull region on Terisiare threatened by Urza and Mishra's War. Oil and forests were found in Sarinth, which is what gave it its strategic value in the conflict. A famous battle where a handful of pikemen held of a trio of Craw Wurms was fought there. A famous Hedge-mage also battled against invaders using green magic. Sarinth was destroyed by Mishra's forces, altough the rebels were successful in holding out against the Fallaji armies until Ashnod arrived.
[edit] Sumifa
Sumifa is an ancient city on Terisiare that was ruled by a Pasha. During the Brothers' War the song-mages of Sumifa joined the war on the side of Mishra. Sumifa is thought to have been destroyed during the Brother's War, but was refounded after the Ice Age.
It is here that the book Song of Time takes place.
[edit] Terisia City
Terisia City was one of the largest and most ancient cities on Terisiare by the time of the Brothers, having had millennia of peace. It was also the headquarters of the Third Way, a group of scholars dedicated to defending themselves from both Brothers, rather than ally with either. It declared neutrality in the war, but Mishra's forces still proceeded to lay siege to the city for months. Although it was a peaceful city, its defenses were formidable, and the city only fell when the Gixian monks betrayed them. It was taken by both sides several times since, but its ultimate fate is not known. It can be assumed that it was eventually destroyed.
[edit] Tomakul
Tomakul was one of the primary cities of The Fallaji Empire. Considered by outsiders to be the most civilized Fallaji settlement, it was also somewhat like capital of their nation. Tomakul was recognized by foreigners its onion-domed palaces. Much trade ran to and from the city, and merchants were abundant in the commons. The tribe of Fallaji that founded it, also known as the Tomakul, held much sway over the other tribes via their accumulated prestige.
[edit] Yotia
Yotia was the most southern of the coastal kingdoms, and the one suffering the brunt of Fallaji raiding parties before the outbreak of the war. It was a Monarchy, whose leader took the title of Warlord (or Warlady). It is the homeland of Tawnos, Apprentice to Urza, and Kayla bin-Kroog, daughter of the Warlord and wife of Urza. After the death of the Warlord at Korlinda, Kayla became the Warlady, and saw Mishra's forces completely destroy Yotia's capital Kroog. Yotia would remain under Fallaji occupation for ten years, before being liberated by Argive and Korlis. By this time, Yotia had been scarred almost beyond repair by the Fallaji plundering and Mishra's Scorched Earth policy. The Yotians would continue to fight on Urza's side until the end of the war. After the war, it eventually crumbled with the rest of the world.
